Petronas aims for net zero emission by 2050

Malaysia's state-run oil and gas company Petronas recently announced that it aims to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions (NZCE) by 2050. By balancing environment, social and corporate governance (ESG), Petronas would contribute to the realization of a sustainable society. While global majors like Royal Dutch Shell, British BP and French Total have declared net zero goals, Petronas is the first major oil and gas company in Asia to do so. As a short-term goal, Petronas has already pledged to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emission to 49.5 mil tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) by 2024. The company is also gearing up for the expansion of its renewable energy portfolio to 3GW by 2024, from 660MW currently.
