Construction of largest floating solar power plant in Southeast Asia in Indonesia

Indonesia is planning to build the largest floating solar power plant in Southeast Asia. The country's state-owned power company PT PLN and Masdar in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) agreed to jointly invest in the construction of this power plant. Masdar is a renewable energy company based in Abu Dhabi.

The new floating solar power plant will have a peak power capacity of 145 MW located in Cirata, West Java. The developer will be PT Pembangkitan Jawa Bali Masdar Solar Energi, a joint venture between PLN and Masdar. Construction has already begun and the plant is scheduled to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2022. The new power plant is expected to be able to meet the electricity demand of 50,000 households, helping to reduce 214,000 ton of carbon dioxide emissions.

The Indonesian government has set a goal of 23% renewable energy in its energy use by 2025. It also aims to achieve net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2060.
