Indonesia sets goal of 14GW of renewable energy generation

Indonesia is planning to increase the share of electricity generated from renewable energy sources to 23% by 2025. To achieve this goal, the country's leading research institute pointed out that it is necessary to expand renewable power generation to 14 gigawatts (GW). In 2020, Indonesia's renewable energy capacity was at 10,467 megawatts (MW), comprising 3.6MW of hybrid energy, 154MW each of wind-generated energy and solar energy, 1,904MW of biomass energy, 2,131MW of geothermal energy, and 6,121MW of hydroelectric power. Of these, solar power is believed to be most promising as it is easy to install and can be used to generate power in small-scale facilities. The Indonesian government is seemingly considering three long-term goals for the expansion of solar power generation. The goals apparently include 4.68GW from large-scale power generation, 26.65GW from floating facilities in 271 lakes (or dams), and 3.61GW from rooftop solar power generations.
