LNG: Mar 22-26: Eastern Australian projects including APLNG restart

--DES Northeast Asia

Having been hit by record heavy rains, some projects in the State of Queensland in Australia resumed operations. The 14.00 mil mt/year Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) project shipped the first cargo since Mar 20 to the 174,000cbm DFDE tanker "Cesi Tianjin" on Wednesday. The 152,300cbm conventional tanker "Seri Begawan" loaded a cargo on Thursday from the 7.80 mil mt/year Gladstone LNG (GLNG) project. The 8.50 mil mt/year Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) project was expected to restart shipments soon. A source at APLNG said that there were no severe supply delays or cancellations from these three projects at the moment. As 70-80% of LNG from these projects was supplied to long-term customers in Japan, Korea and China including China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS), JERA and Kansai Electric Power, the impact on supply/demand on a DES Northeast Asia basis might be severe if shipments were halted for a long period.

As of Friday`s afternoon, three vessels were waiting at the Red Sea entrance of the Suez Canal. They were the 266,000cbm Q-Max tanker "Rasheeda", the 151,700cbm conventional tanker "Al Areesh" and the 159,760cbm TFDE tanker "Corcovado LNG". All the vessels were carrying cargoes from the 78.00 mil mt/year Ras Laffan project of Qatargas and were made to wait on their way to Europe. Qatargas' own vessel "Rasheeda" was seen to be transporting a cargo to the 16.70 mil mt/year South Hook terminal in Britain where the company has usage rights.
