First PX cargo from Brunei arrives in China

The first paraxylene (PX) cargo produced by Hengyi's refinery and petrochemical project at Pulau Muara Besar(PMB) arrived at Hainan Yisheng (Yangpu Port on Hainan Island) in China on Dec 4. The project started production on Nov 3 and reached full capacity in just a month. The project sells chemical products such as PX and benzene to downstream manufacturers in China and supplies petroleum products such as gasoline, gasoil and kerosene to Brunei and Southeast Asia. Hengyi is involved in wide range of operations from crude oil refining to downstream products. Chinese refineries rely on imports of crude oil and base materials. As Hengyi has a stable supply of raw materials, it has an advantage in producing middle distillates, a major product for export. On the other hand, Hainan Yisheng is assured of stable supply of PX feedstock with the Brunei project starting production. Hainan Yisheng was established in Hainan Yangpu Economic Development Zone as a joint venture between Hengyi Group, one of 500 leading Chinese companies and Rongsheng Group in 2010. Hainan Yisheng produces 2.1 mil mt of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and 1.5 mil mt of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) annually. In addition, a 500,000mt PET project is in progress. Hainan Yisheng not only sells products in China but also exports products to Southeast Asia and North Africa. Hainan Yisheng built a liquid chemical storage tank and a berth at Yangpu Port in conjunction with the Hengyi Brunei project to improve transport efficiency of raw materials and products.
