2019/08/02 12:00

According to the China Statistics Bureau, the increase in energy supply was accelerating in the first half of this year, and the energy structure is being optimized. Further, energy-saving is also progressing steadily. The main points are as follows.

1)    Increase in energy supply accelerates

Chinese domestic production of fossil fuels in the first half of this year increased 2.6% for coal, 0.8% for crude oil, 10.3% for natural gas. Total power generation rose 3.3%. In the power generation sector, optimization of the power supply structure has continued, with hydro, nuclear, wind and solar power generation increasing by 2.1% year-on-year, accounting for 27.3% of the total.

2)   Rapid increase in energy imports

Imports of fossil fuels also increased. Coal imports amounted to 150 mil mt, increasing 5.8% from the same period last year. Crude oil imports increased 8.8% to 240 mil mt, and natural gas imports increased 11.6% to 46.92 mil mt.

3)   Energy consumption increases steadily, and energy structure is being optimized

Total energy consumption increased 3.4% year-on-year. The proportion of clean energy consumption such as natural gas, hydropower, nuclear power and wind power increased by 1.6% from the previous year. On the other hand, coal consumption decreased by 2.1%.

4)   Promotion of energy saving

Energy consumption per unit of gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 2.7% from the same period previous years.
