Power: Oct28- Nov1: West markets wallow with some 0.01yen units
Wholesale electricity prices in the Japan market weakened in the week to November 1, resulting from sufficient supply from photovoltaics (PV) plants and dull demand under the blue expanse and un-mid-autumn-like warm temperature. Western markets saw some 0.01 yen/kWh units (one unit = 30 minutes, 0.01yen = minimum price under the current rules) again on the Japan Electric Power Exchange (JEPX) trading.
Based on the Rim Power Index (Day ahead 24 hours), the weekday power prices in the eastern market, including Hokkaido, Tohoku and Tokyo area, averaged out at 8.63 yen per kilowatt hour (kWh), down 0.19 yen/kWh or 2.2% from the prior week, meanwhile prices in the western, made up of Chubu, Hokuriku, Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku and Kyushu area, at 6.67 yen/kWh, down 0.94 yen/kWh, or 12.4%. The disparity between the western average and Kyushu's narrowed a fraction to 0.13 yen/kWh from 0.19 yen/kWh with western's 6.65 yen/kWh and Kyushu's 6.52 yen/kWh, which are calculated based on data of JEPX. The Kyushu market recorded one 0.01 yen/kWh unit for October 30 delivery, five for Oct 31, four for Nov, meanwhile, other five western areas, such as Kansai and Chubu, also tallied two 0.01 yen/kWh for Oct.
In eastern Japan, Tokyo's weather for the week days without Oct 29 were expected to be sunny on a day ahead basis, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. Western Japan's Osaka and Nagoya were forecasted to enjoy more fair skies for the days except Oct 29. Tokyo's daily maximum temperatures during the week were estimated on a day ahead basis at 15 degrees Celsius to 24 deg C against the prior weekday range of 19 deg C to 23 deg C. Osaka's max temperatures were forecasted at 20 deg C to 23 deg C versus the prior range of 22 deg C to 25 deg C.
On the Japan Electric Power Exchange (JEPX), the weekday average of System Price (Day ahead 24 hours), which are computed based on the data of 9 areas, dropped by 0.67 yen/kWh or 8.4% to 7.35 yen/kWh, with the average volume increasing by 11,953 megawatt per hour (MWh) to 780,649 MWh.
