LNG: Sep 21-25: Northeast Asian end-users showing buying interest

--DES Northeast Asia
DES Northeast Asia prices did not move. Buying interest was seen from end-users in Japan, Korea and Taiwan but since corresponding cargoes were available, supply/demand fundamentals were not tight. In Japan, several power companies seemed to consider purchasing November delivery. In Korea, GS Energy procured early November delivery and major steel manufacturer POSCO also showed buying interest for November delivery. In addition, Taiwan's CPC Corporation conducted a buy tender for a November delivery cargo. On the other hand, Malaysian state-owned Petronas sold a cargo from the 7.80 mil mt/year Gladstone project in Australia for delivery during Nov 13-16 via a tender closed on Wednesday. A Japanese gas company also contemplated reselling a cargo for November delivery.

Strong buying interest was observed from Indian end-users. On the other hand, although the magnitude of the gain was capped by ample supply, the spread with the DES Northeast Asia market gradually narrowed. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) issued a buy tender for one cargo each to be delivered Nov 20-24 to the 5.00 mil mt/year Kochi terminal and Nov 26 to the 17.50 mil mt/year Dahej terminal. Further, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) closed a buy tender on Friday for a cargo to be delivered end-September to end-October to the 5.00 mil mt/year Ennore terminal.

--FOB Atlantic, DES Europe and South America
In the Atlantic basin, cancellations of US cargoes were expected to be considerably reduced from November. On the other hand, restart at the Cameron project was seen to be delayed to November. Further, the Henry Hub (H.H.) natural gas market in the US continued to rise. Because of these factors, the FOB Atlantic market was supported. Production volumes in November at US projects such as the 22.50 mil mt/year Sabine Pass project and 5.25 mil mt/year Cove Point project were likely to be similar to contractual volumes or at most reduced by about 5 cargoes. For September loading, about 25 cargoes against contractual volumes were reduced. Before that, 40 cargoes per month had been cancelled.
