Singapore plans to import renewable energy from Indonesia
Singapore is planning to import electricity derived from renewable energy from Indonesia. It is expected to start importing two gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy annually from Indonesia within the next five years. The imports would account for about 15% of Singapore's annual electricity consumption. The Singapore government recently announced plans to import one GW of electricity derived from renewable energy from Cambodia. The government aims to import four GW of electricity derived from renewable energy by 2035, and this goal is now well within reach. 95% of Singapore's electricity is currently generated by thermal power using natural gas as fuel.
