Selling electricity between Southeast Asian countries

Thai renewable energy group BCPG Pcl recently announced that its subsidiary in Laos made an agreement to sell electricity to Vietnam for 25 years. Laos's Impact Energy Asia Development (IEAD) will sell electricity to Vietnam Electricity (EVN), Vietnam's state-owned electricity company. Mitsubishi Motors owns a 55% share in IEAD while BCPG Pcl owns 45%. IEAD is planning to build a 600MW wind power plant in Laos. Electricity will be supplied from this power plant to Vietnam. Construction of the new power plant is scheduled to start in 2022. By the end of 2025, power supply is expected to start commercially. Electricity will be supplied to Quang Nam Province in Vietnam via a 500kV transmission line. The contract price for the sale of electricity is reported at USD 69.5 per MWh.
