EVs account for more than half of commercial vans in Singapore

Among commercial vans in Singapore in 2023, 1,451 were electric vehicles (EVs), which accounted for 52.6% of the total number of registered commercial vans, according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore. The absolute number of EV registrations, however, fell below the 1,484 recorded in 2022. Among EV brands, China's BYD maintained its top position from 2022 with 310 registrations. Chinese Shineray had 218 registrations, French Citroen had 156 registrations, German Opel had 136 registrations, Chinese DFSK had 118 registrations, and parallel-imported Toyota vehicles accounted for 117 registrations.

The Singapore government lowered the tax for EV vans from 30,000 Singapore dollars (SGD) (approximately USD 22,300) to SGD 15,000 in April 2023.The reduction in tax rates had a significant impact, having contributed to the growing adoption of electric vehicles. Another factor is the substantial increase in the number of EV charging points across the island. As of January this year, there are over 700 charging locations, totaling more than 2,400 charging points, specifically in the Housing and Development Board (HDB)-managed public housing parking lots. The government plans to install at least 12,000 charging stations in 2,000 HDB public parking lots by 2025.
