LNG: Jul 26-30: DES Northeast Asia prices surge with gains in European natural gas prices

--DES Northeast Asia

DES Northeast Asia prices rise 1.30 from Jul 21 to $15.35-15.65 for first-half September delivery. Owing to a surge in the Netherlands' TTF natural market in Europe, portfolio players such as European trader Trafigura raised their bids to buy cargoes to cover their short positions. Many end-users felt that prices were relatively high and retreated to the sideline. On the other hand, Chinese independent companies and Korea companies with spot demand for prompt delivery moved on spot purchase. Russia's Sakhalin Energy sold a cargo loading Aug 31 from the 10.80 mil mt/year Sakhalin 2 project for early September delivery in the mid $15's via a tender closed on Jul 29.

Pakistan LNG (PLL) bought four cargoes for September delivery via a tender closed on Jul 28. European Gunvor sold Sep 6-7 and 17-18 delivery at $15.3970, Sep 12-13 delivery at 15.4970. For Sep 27-28 delivery, PetroChina was awarded at $15.1998. BP, Trafigura, Total, Vitol, and POSCO had also participated in the tender but they were not awarded.

GAIL sold a total of five cargos loading at the 5.25 mil mt/year Cove Point project on Aug 25, Oct 17-21, Nov5-9, and Dec3-7 and at the 22.50 mil mt/year Sabin Pass project on Sep 5, via a swap tender closed on Jul 26.
