Cambodia oil products demand to increase to 8.30 mil mt by 2040
The Cambodian government announced in July that oil products demand in the country is expected to increase to 4.80 mil mt/year by 2030 and 8.30 mil mt/year by 2040. In 2020, demand for oil products was at 2.80 mil mt/year and this would increase about threefold by 2040. Cambodia fully imports oil products. Major origins of imports are Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand. Due to a sharp rise in oil prices in the world, import costs are increasing sharply. According to the Cambodian government, the value of gasoline and diesel oil purchased by Southeast Asian countries in the period January to May 2022 was $970 mil, up 57% from the same period in the previous year. In the domestic market in Cambodia, selling prices for regular gasoline are at 4,800 riel/liter or $1.17/liter, up 6.6% from early February. For diesel oil, selling prices are at 5,300 riel/liter or $1.3/liter, up 25% from early February.
