Singapore Airlines to replace 5% of total fuel requirements with SAF by 2030

Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group announced that it would aim to replace 5% of total fuel requirements with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) by 2030. The group runs two airlines including the world's top-level Singapore Airlines and low cost carrier Scoot. The group targets to achieve net-zero emission of CO2 by 2025. SAF is an aviation fuel made from waste cooking oil and biomass-derived raw materials. It can utilize current infrastructure and is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions significantly compared to conventional fuels. The group started taking SAF for the first time at Singapore Changi Airport in July 2022. At that time, SAF supplied by major biofuel company Neste was mixed with jet fuel. The group seemed to have started negotiations with suppliers such as refiners to increase its SAF supply sources. At present, SAF accounts for less than 1% of total aviation fuels used globally.
