Vietnam to produce 500,000mt of hydrogen per year by 2030

The Vietnamese government announced its hydrogen strategy in February. The government plans to decarbonize, implement environmental measures and achieve net zero emissions by 2050. The government aims to increase the annual production capacity of hydrogen to 100,000-500,000mt by 2030, and to 10-20 million mt by 2050. Its strategy is to cover 10% of the country's energy demand with hydrogen by 2050. The government will develop a concrete plan for the construction of production facilities and launch campaigns to promote domestic and foreign investment in the future.

In Vietnam, TGS Green Hydrogen (TGS), a local clean energy company, started construction of a green hydrogen plant in Ben Tre province in 2022. In March of this year, TGS also began construction of a production facility in Tra Vinh province. Once both facilities begin operations, TGS's annual production will be 84,000mt of hydrogen, 685,000mt of oxygen, and 375,000mt of ammonia.
