Subsidy for gasoline expected to be abolished in Malaysia

The Malaysian government's removal of fuel subsidies is expected to affect 95RON gasoline as well. As reported, the government had abolished the subsidy for diesel oil in Peninsular Malaysia in June. The government planned to streamline the gasoline subsidy in stages this year.

Malaysia's 95Ron gasoline prices are the lowest in Southeast Asia at MYR 2.05/kl or USD 0.44/kl. Those prices are lower by 48-54% than in Indonesia and Vietnam.

Due to the removal of the diesel oil subsidy in Peninsular Malaysia in June, diesel oil prices were at MYR 3.35/kl or USD 0.71/kl, increasing by 55.8% from 2.15 MYR/kl before the subsidy was removed.
