The total length of the pipeline in Myanmar is 771 kilometers while the total length of the crude oil pipeline in China is 1,631 kilometers, and the total length of the natural gas pipeline in China is 1,727 kilometers. The crude oil pipeline is designed to transport 22 million tons of crude oil annually, and the natural gas pipeline is designed to transport 12 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually. The total cost of the project is $2.5 billion. The China-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline would allow crude oil from the Middle East to bypass the Strait of Malacca and land in Myanmar via the Indian Ocean for pipeline transport to China. It is of great significance for improving the energy shortage in southwest China.
