Vietnam begins sales of E10 biofuel in Aug
Starting Aug 1, Vietnam has commenced sales of E10 biofuel, a gasoline blend containing 10% ethanol, as an automotive fuel. The trial launch targets three major cities, and the government plans to roll out the fuel nationwide in January next year, provided the trial proves successful.
Petrolimex has begun sales at 36 gas stations in Ho Chi Minh City, while PetroVietnam Oil (PVOIL) is offering the fuel in the capital Hanoi and Hai Phong. Petrolimex reported sales exceeding 3,000 liters per day within the first few days, while PVOIL's sales surpassed 10,000 liters on the first day alone. The price of E10 biofuel is approximately 19,600 Vietnamese Dong (VND) per liter (around $0.75), which is VND 240 cheaper than the widely used RON95 gasoline. Despite the lower price, some local media reported that some consumers are hesitant to use E10 due to concerns over fuel quality.
