Taiwan's EVA Airways to buy domestically produced SAF from FPCC

Taiwan's EVA Airways signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Taiwanese refiner Formosa Petrochemical Corp (FPCC) for the procurement of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). EVA Airways will receive over 20,000 tons of domestically produced SAF from FPCC over a five-year period starting in 2026. It is estimated that about 50,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) can be reduced with the contract. The airline estimates that up to 80% of CO2 emissions could be reduced using SAF compared to conventional jet fuel.

The company started using SAF at major domestic airports in April this year and is aiming to achieve net-zero by 2050. Meanwhile, FPCC recently struck another supply term contract with Taiwan's China Airlines to supply 10,000 tons of domestically produced SAF.
