Vietnam conducts first refueling with SAF-blended jet fuel

In August, Vietnam carried out its first refueling of an aircraft with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Petrolimex Aviation, a subsidiary of state-owned Petrolimex, supplied Vietjet Air with 1,200 cubic meters of jet fuel blended with SAF. The company also provided a Proof of Sustainability (PoS) certificate in accordance with the ISCC EU standard.

Petrolimex Aviation supplies fuel to both domestic and international airlines at most of Vietnam's major airports. Vietjet Air is the country's largest low-cost carrier (LCC).

The ISCC EU certification standard, based on the European Union's Renewable Energy Directive (RED), verifies the sustainability of biomass, main products, waste, and residues for the EU market. SAF can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 80% compared with conventional fossil-based jet fuel. Vietnam aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
