Pertamina partners with Singapore LNG on biogas production and marketing
Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in October with Singapore LNG, a state-owned enterprise, to jointly develop biogas or biomethane projects. Pertamina NRE is a subsidiary of Indonesia's state-owned Pertamina.
Under the agreement, Indonesia will develop production technology for biogas using palm oil mill effluent (POME) generated during palm oil processing and will build the necessary production facilities. The biogas produced is expected to be transported in the future either via a pipeline between Sumatra and Singapore or by vessel.
Meanwhile, Singapore will develop the distribution network for the biogas. The partnership aims to leverage Singapore's experience in international energy trading and Indonesia's rich natural resources and growing focus on green gas development to build a cross-border biogas supply chain.
