Indonesia targets achieving fuel self-sufficiency in five years, President says

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said that the country would target to achieve fuel self-sufficiency in five years during a ceremony to cerebrate the startup of expanded facilities at the Balikpapan refinery owned by Kiran Pertamina International (KPI), a petroleum refining company under state-owned energy company Pertamina.

President Prabowo officially inaugurated the Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) at Refinery Unit V in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan province. The Balikpapan refinery newly built a residue fluid catalytic cracker (RFCC) that produces gasoline, middle distillates and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and expanded the daily throughput of crude oil from 260,000bbl to 360,000bbl. The refinery is the largest refinery in the country.

President Prabowo said that the country would actively pursue energy self-sufficiency, citing the achievement of rice self-sufficiency within his first year in office as an example. According to some local news media, he strongly emphasized the need to further promote the expansion of solar power generation as part of the domestic power supply structure.
