According to the "2025 Domestic and International Oil and Gas Industry Development Report" released by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) in February, China's oil and gas production reached 420 million tons of oil equivalent in 2025. This included 216 million tons of crude oil and 263.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Meanwhile, the country's oil consumption stood at 762 million tons, up 1.1% on year, and natural gas consumption reached 432 billion cubic meters.

The Report forecasts that in 2026, China's crude oil production will continue to see slight growth, while natural gas output will maintain relatively rapid expansion. It also predicts that oil consumption will remain largely stable. Natural gas consumption is expected to range between 450 and 455 billion cubic meters, an increase of 18-23 billion cubic meters on year, or 4.2-5.3%.
