First carbon capture and storage in Thailand scheduled to start up in 2028

PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP), a subsidiary of Thailand's state-owned oil company PTT made a final investment decision (FDI) for first carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility in the country. PTTEP explores and produces energy in the country and abroad. The CCS facility is scheduled to be constructed at the Arthit gas field, located in the Gulf of Thailand off the coast of Songkhla Province on the Malay Peninsula in southern Thailand. It can capture and store up to 1 million tons of carbon dioxide per year in geological strata 1,000-2,000 meters underground. It is expected to start operations in 2028. |
