In China, many polyester facilities to start up in H2 2026
In China, several polyester facilities are scheduled to start up in the second half of 2026 and overall operation rates of existing polyester facilities are expected to remain high. For PET bottle makers, export demand is firm. The high-demand season for polyester fibers would continue until September-October.
In the feedstock market, no major feedstock purified terephthalic acid (PTA) facilities are expected to start up this year but several facilities under turnaround are forecast to restart operations in the second half of the year. Facility operation rates are anticipated to rise. However, with present operation rates of existing facilities low, inventories are tight. Under such circumstances, supply/demand might tighten going forward.
