In China, operation rates of styrene monomer (SM) facilities in August were 63.86%. This was the lowest level since March 2024, because several facilities entered turnaround. Further, production cuts also took place at several facilities.

　 According to Rim's investigation, facilities that entered turnaround include Jinzhou Petrochemical, Shandong Lihuayi, Shandong Lingbosidarui, Jiangsu Shenghong, ZRCC No.2, Ningbo Keyuan, Zhanjing Dongxing, Hainanshihua Jiasheng, and Ningxia Baofeng.

　 Meanwhile, production cuts took place at Bohua Fazhan, Qingdao Haiwan, Yantai Wanhua, Anhui Jiaxi and Lianyungang Petrochemical.

　 In September onwards, turnaround is planned to be completed at Dushanzi Petrochemical, Zibo Junchen, Yantai Wanhua, Shandong Jingbosidarui and Gulei Petrochemical. Therefore, operation rates are expected to be higher than in August. On the other hand, major producers such as Lianyungang Petrochemical, Anqing Petrochemical No.2, and CSPC are scheduled to continue turnaround. Average operation rates in September are estimated to be about 68%.
