Sembcorp Utilities, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, is moving forward with a project to import solar-generated electricity from Malaysia to Singapore. In August, Singapore's Energy Market Authority (EMA) granted conditional approval for the project. Sembcorp Industries is a major government-linked utilities company engaged in energy and urban development businesses.

　Sembcorp Utilities will establish a joint venture with a government-linked investment company and other partners in the Malaysian state of Johor to build a 2,200-MW floating solar power plant on a reservoir. Of the total output, 300 MW is planned to be transmitted to Singapore.

　Singapore aims to import 6,000 MW of renewable energy-generated electricity by 2035. In addition to Malaysia, electricity import projects involving Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia and Australia are also under development.
