Kyushu Electric Power Co announced on Oct 17 that it would resume power generation from the 1180 MW No. 4 unit (pressurized water reactor = PWR) at its Genkai nuclear power station, located in Genkai Town, Saga Prefecture, on Oct 20. The resumption was due to the completion of the replacement of parts of the main steam isolation valve (MSIV); the company appeared to have conducted the inspection for the other three MSIVs.
Kyushu Electric would start activation of the unit on Oct 17 to bring it into a critical state on Oct 18 and then begin commissioning of the unit by increasing outputs gradually to confirm function of each parts. Upon the completion of the comprehensive performance inspection on Nov 14, the unit would return to normal operation.
Initially, the unit was scheduled to activate the reactor on Sep 30 and then to resume power generation on Oct 2. On Sep 28, however, the glitch of the valve used for inspection of the main steam unit was found, resulting in a delay of normal operation.
