Tohoku Electric puts off completion of anti-terrorism facility at Onagawa nuke power station
|
Tohoku Electric Power Co on Oct 17 announced that it decided to extend completion of the construction of the Severe Accident Facility (anti-terrorism facility) and permanent-direct-current-power-supply-system at the 825 MW No. 2 unit (BWR: Boiling Water Reactor) at its Onagawa nuclear power station, located in Onagawa Town in Miyagi Prefecture. Initially, the completion of the construction was due on Dec 22, 2026; however, the labor shortage among developers has forced Tohoku Electric to put off the deadline to August 2028 for the former one and to March 2028 for the latter one. Meanwhile, the No. 2 unit was planned to enter the regular maintenance from Dec 22 next year. The delay in the construction would not have affected the schedule; however, it put the unit out of operation for more than 1.5 years.
