Hanazumi Hideyo, the governor of the Niigata Prefecture, announced on Nov 21 that he accepted the reactivation of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power station by Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) Holdings in the press conference at 16:00 on the day. From now on, TEPCO will prepare for the reactivation process of the 1356 MW No. 6 unit (ABWR = Advanced Boiling Water Reactor) at the station, located in Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Prefecture, with a chance of resumption within the 2025 fiscal year at the earliest.
As of Nov 21, 14 units at 8 nuclear power stations are in operation in Japan. In the East Japan area (50 Hz), the 825 MW No. 2 unit (BWR: Boiling Water Reactor) at Tohoku Electric Power Co's Onagawa nuclear power station has been solely operating. The activation of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa power station has marked the first time for TEPCO to reactivate a nuclear power station since the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011.
