TEPCO halts No. 6 unit at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuke power station on Jan 22
|
Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (TEPCO) on Jan 22 announced that it had halted the 1356 MW No. 6 unit (ABWR = Advanced Boiling Water Reactor) at its Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power station, located in Kashiwazaki City in Niigata Prefecture. The decision came from the alert system trouble during the operation of control rods in the late night on Jan 22, after the reactivation of the unit on Jan 21 by pulling out the control rods. TEPCO judged it might be better to put the unit itself on the outage because the ongoing investigation for the trouble might take time. The company said it would report the outcome after the investigation. As of 16:00 on Jan 23, the schedule of the resumption of the unit was not fixed.
