Japan=Asahi, Mitsui and Mitsubishi to close Mizushima ethylene facility
Regarding restructuring of ethylene facilities in western Japan, Asahi Kasei, Mitsui Chemicals and Mitsubishi Chemical announced on Jan 27 that they agreed to close Asahi Kasei Mitsubishi Chemical Ethylene Corp (AMEC)'s ethylene facility at the Mizushima Plant and to integrate their facilities into an ethylene facility owned by Osaka Petrochemical Industries, a subsidiary of Mitsui Chemicals. AMEC's ethylene facility is scheduled to be closed in the fiscal year 2030.
After the integration of their ethylene facilities, the product is assumed to be brought via vessels, but the construction of supply chain will be considered going forward. The integration will be materialized via a joint venture (JV). The proportion of shares in the JV will be determined based on volumes of ethylene that those companies receive.
