At approximately 16:52 JST on Apr 20 2026, an earthquake with a magnitude 7.5 occurred off the Sanriku coast in the Tohoku region. A maximum seismic intensity of 5-upper was observed in Aomori Prefecture. Tsunami warnings were issued for the Central Pacific Coast of Hokkaido and Iwate Prefecture, with the tsunami height expected to be 3 meters. Tsunami advisories were also issued for the Eastern Pacific Coast of Hokkaido, Western Pacific Coast of Hokkaido, Pacific Coast of Aomori Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture, and Iwate Prefecture, with the tsunami height expected to be 1 meter. 3 meters.
