Two tropical depressions form with possible typhoons

The Japan Meteorological Agency announced on Jul 1 that two tropical depressions had formed, (a) in the South China Sea and (b) in the Marshall Islands. Tropical depression (a) had a central pressure of 1,002 hPa, with maximum sustained winds of 15 meters and maximum instantaneous gusts of 23 meters near its center. Tropical depression (b) had a central pressure of 1,000 hPa, with maximum sustained winds of 18 meters and maximum instantaneous gusts of 25 meters near its center.
Both tropical depressions are expected to develop into typhoons within the next 24 hours. The western tropical depression (a) is not expected to develop significantly and is forecast to become an extratropical cyclone over the Chinese continent. The eastern tropical depression (b) is expected to directly impact Guam and Saipan with a storm-force wind area around Jul 4, and then proceed towards the west of Kyushu while developing.
