Kyushu Gas halts supply to 9,000 households after earthquake

Due to an earthquake with a maximum seismic intensity of seven that struck Kumamoto Prefecture around 16:27 on Jul 28, Kyushu Gas suspended city gas supply to about 9,000 households in Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture for safety reasons. Saibu Gas also stopped city gas supply to about 500 households in some areas of Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, for the same safety reasons. Both companies are conducting surveys and inspections around the affected areas, and the scope of the suspension could expand depending on the results. Meanwhile, no major damage has been reported so far regarding key facilities such as gas holders and pipelines.
