Dredger and bunker barge collision causes bunker spill in Singapore
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) announced on June 14 that a trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) "Vox Maxima" collided with the berthed bunker barge "Marine Honour." The collision resulted in a hole in the dredger's fuel tank, causing a low-sulfur bunker fuel oil leakage. As of Jun 16, cleanup operations had been underway at Pasir Panjang Terminal. Additionally, oil slick was observed on some beaches, leading to the designation of no-swimming areas. No additional oil spills were confirmed in the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) of the Singapore Strait, and operations of the area were not affected.
Market sources noted that safety checks within the major Singapore loading areas would be intensified, potentially causing congestion for barge operations. The MPA was leading the fuel oil removal efforts.
