According to data released by Japan Petrochemical Industry Association, production of ethylene in May 2026 was at 325,100mt, down 22.0% year-on-year as more ethylene facilities underwent turnaround and operating rates also fell. Meanwhile, compared to April 2026, production increased 14.6% since some ethylene facilities restarted after turnaround and the number of days was higher. The number of ethylene facilities that underwent turnaround were two companies' two facilities in May 2026, four companies' four facilities in April 2026 and one company's one facility in May 2025. Operating rates of ethylene facilities that were in operation in May 2026 were at 68.1%, up 0.8points from April 2026 and down 8.0points from May 2025.
