LNG: Jun 16-20: End-users focus on temperatures with expectations for demand

--DES Northeast Asia

In Japan, despite strong gas demand with scorching weather, worries about possibly running out of stocks were not heard from end users; just some power companies conducted additional supply measures, such as running pumped storage hydroelectricity, to meet an increase in power load. Provided hot temperatures lasted, that could boost LNG demand; many market players have been gazing at weather outlooks from now on. In the meantime, many end-users kept themselves on hold. As of now, production and supply from Qatar have been keeping up, creating no supply disruption. "Players cannot move to buy now because they need to see how the situation in the Middle East will develop and avoid buying with high prices," a Japanese company said.

Indian state-run State-run Gujarat State Petroleum Corp (GSPC) closed its buy tender on Wednesday for a cargo to be delivered to India in second-half July delivery. A Japanese company pointed out, "As GSPC is moving on spot purchase amid this high price aspect, they might be trying to make sure how much cheap offers they can get."

Colombia's state-run Calamari LNG bought a partial cargo to be delivered to the 3.70 mil mt/year Cartagena terminal through its buy tender closed on Monday. Even though details were unknown, British BP won the tender and the cargo was scheduled to be loaded onto the 173,400mt MEGI tanker "British Mentor".
