LNG: Aug 25-29: Power demand to recover from weekend

--DES Northeast Asia

Appetite in spot cargoes still remained at the low ebb. In Tokyo, the peak power demand on Aug 28 was 48.77GW, dropping steeply from 55.22GW on Aug 27. The slowdown in demand apparently came as the highest temperature on Aug 28 fell below 35 degrees for the first time in 11 days. The highest temperature in Tokyo was capped at 33-34 degrees on Aug 29, so that the peak power demand was expected to stay almost the same as Aug 28. In South Korea well, the peak power demand on Aug 29 was estimated to be 88.90GW, almost stable from 89.90GW on Aug 28. But it was forecast that the highest temperature would rebound near 40 degrees from Aug 30 onward, and intense heat would persist even in September. Thus, gas demand for power generation in summer was likely to remain robust going forward.
