Petrochemicals: Feb 16-20: Aromatic prices jump up in second half of week along with crude oil
Aromatics
In the benzene market on an FOB Korea basis and the paraxylene (PX) market on a CFR Northeast Asia basis, trade was muted in the first half of the week due to Lunar New Year. However, in the second half of the week, prices for these products rose sharply along with gains in crude oil prices.
Olefins
CFR Northeast Asia prices for ethylene, propylene and butadiene showed no changes. As many countries including China and Taiwan were on Lunar New Year holiday, limited players were in the market. As for facilities, Malaysia's Pengerang Refining and Petrochemical (PRefChem) had been expected to conduct work to restart its residue fluid catalytic cracker (RFCC) in the previous week but the facility apparently had not restarted operations.
